Day 5 of Gold Cup! USA beat Japan!

USA beats Japan 89-46. The front line of Counts, Scott, and Serio did impressive work again in the first quarter and a series of American lineups followed that continued to extend the lead. The USA will face Great Britain tomorrow (Mon July 12) in the final game of pool play. Monday is a huge day of matchups all around and will largely determine seedings for the bracketed final set of games. We're anticipating a strong battle against the GB team.

The USA Men play Great Britain on Monday at 9am EST. The USA Women play against Germany for their final pool game at 4:30am EST. Both are on Court 1. Here's the link to the court 1 video: http://media.2010wwbc.co.uk/pages/live-video-court-1

Day 4 of Gold Cup! USA wins their 3rd straight game!

USA defeats Italy 83-34. While we were feeling confident about our first lineup and their pressing ability, no-one would have expected a 26-4 first quarter. The Italians started with a small lineup, in hopes of handling the anticipated pressure. #12 J Nelms opened the game up with a few 3's and then #9 Scott, #11 Serio, and #8 counts sliced up the extension. Italy experimented with a few lineups but were never able to establish the offensive pattern that they play well. The US play Japan tomorrow (Sun July 11) at 7:15am EST.

Day 3 of Gold Cup

Joe before game.JPG

Wow, well, wasn't quite expecting to beat Poland by 49. (83-34). Poland has two amazing shooters (#5 Flipski and #11 Luchinski). Our game plan was to bring an aggressive press and make it very difficult for one of those two to work their way up court. Poland fought back for a while, but then succumbed to the pressure and the string of baskets the we put together.
Convincing victory, great to see the intensity we put into practice pay off in a game.
Italy tomorrow (Sat July 9) @ 6:45am EST.

The Women's team also won their game against Brazil 66 to 24!

Great start to the tournament for both USA teams!
